Holding Capacity Of The Heels

The rope capacity L(m), of a reel, in any size and length may be calculated by the following formula:


L - rope capacity of reel (ml.
A - depth of rope layer (mm), = H – B/2
B - diameter of reel barral (mm)
C - width between reel flanges (mm),
d2 - rope diameter (mm),
H - diameter of the drum (mm) as measured over the outermost layer filling the drum.

This formula is based on assumption of uniform rope winding and will not give correct result if rope is not wound uniformly in a reel.
